Fabian Fussek, Nick Copley and Timo Glave join as Venture Partners

Maritime innovation is still very nascent, and so very few people have the firsthand experience of building a successful business in the market. The teams we invest in will, more often than not, be the first in their respective sectors to scale a company to fleet-wide contracts and then take it through an acquisition or sell it.
It’s our job to improve the odds of such success by investing in the best talent and technologies, as well as providing direct access to the people who already know how to win.
Venture Partners at Motion Ventures serve in an advisory capacity to our portfolio companies by providing insight and hands-on support for GTM and acquisition strategies, while maintaining their own senior roles in the industry. Their input can compress years (or even decades) of learning into months for our portfolio companies. And so we’re pleased to introduce the very experienced Fabian Fussek, Nick Copley and Timo Glave as Venture Partners at Motion Ventures.
Not many maritime founders and executives can say they have a direct line to someone who has built and sold a maritime software company, another who has run one of the industry's largest software acquisitions, and yet another who has spent 17 years at the centre of maritime’s biggest strategic decisions. Ours can.
Some of our portfolio companies have already started working with Timo. We are in the process of increasing bandwidth and matching company priorities with where each Venture Partner can offer the most impact. While Fabian, Nick and Timo are Motion's first Venture Partners, we look forward to continuing to build out this part of our team in the future.

Fabian Fussek
Fabian is the Co-Founder and CEO of Kaiko Systems, an AI-powered, mobile-first platform that helps frontline crews and technical managers keep their vessels compliant, inspected and ready. He started Kaiko in 2020, raised $10M across Pre-Seed, Seed and Series A, and grew it to dozens of enterprise shipping customers, including half of the top 10 global ship managers. In 2026, Kaiko was acquired by UniSea, backed by Adelis Equity Partners, where Fabian continues to lead the business as CEO. Motion first invested in Kaiko in 2023 as part of its Pre-Series A.
Before Kaiko, Fabian was a Venture Architect at Deloitte Digital, where he first identified the opportunity for AI in maritime operations. Earlier, he was the first employee and Head of Product at Zenhomes (Vermietet.de), later acquired by Scout24.
Fabian is the first founder from our portfolio to return as a Venture Partner after selling his company. As a Venture Partner, he can provide the relevant advice and insights to our current founders, as he has made many of the hiring, enterprise-sales and exit decisions that they’re currently working through themselves.

Nick Copley
Nick is Group Strategy and Corporate Development Director at Lloyd's Register. He owns the Group's growth strategy, partnerships, acquisitions and divestments. He led the transaction to acquire Ocean Technologies Group and restructured the Group's balance sheet to create a separately financed digital business. In 2025 he served as Interim Co-CEO of Lloyd's Register's combined digital businesses, serving 30,000 vessels and more than a million seafarers.
Before that, Nick spent five years at Equistone-backed OneOcean Group as Corporate Development Director and Interim Chief Commercial Officer. He ran M&A end to end, transformed OneOcean into a subscription-based software and services business, and led its sale to Lloyd's Register. Earlier in his career, he spent more than a decade across a range of roles in private equity, leveraged finance, corporate development and general management, including turning around and selling a sports data consultancy.
Having spent the best part of a decade buying, building, running and selling maritime digital businesses, he brings an acquirer's view of what makes a company worth buying.
Timo Glave
Timo Glave brings 17 years of experience advising leading companies and investors across maritime, shipping, and logistics. He spent 7 years at BCG as a Junior Partner and Global Co-Leader for Shipping, followed by 10 years at McKinsey & Company, where he was a Partner and Global Co-Leader for Shipping & Terminals. Over the years, he has worked closely with international maritime, shipping and infrastructure companies on a broad range of strategic and operational topics.
Alongside his advisory work, Timo has been involved in building and developing several industry initiatives. He co-founded Navimeter, a vessel arrival prediction venture supported and funded by McKinsey.
He is also an active angel investor in maritime and supply chain technology. His approach combines deep industry experience with a practical style and a genuine interest in working closely with management teams, owners, and entrepreneurs.
Timo’s network runs through the people who lead those companies, and he knows what makes a technology company valuable to them. He brings that network and commercial judgement to our founders.
